Here's Nate at lunch today eating a banana. As usual, our dog Ava waits by his feet hoping to catch the cast offs.
Nate signs BANANA, MORE and DOG
Nate signs "banana" very similarly to the way he signs "beans." In fact, a lot of his signs look alike. This is very common between twelve and eighteen months of age. As his fine motor skills improve he will make more distinct gestures. Until then, we'll just continue to use context clues and guess. Are you asking me for water or thanking me? Here's the official ASL sign for BANANA (just "peel" your finger like a banana).
